Clothing Donations Activity Report

We all fall on hard times. It happens to the best of us.

If you’ve ever been there, yourself, as we have, you’ll know there’s nothing to be ashamed of being in need. Nor reaching out for help. If you’ve had the good fortune and privilege of avoiding need, that’s something to be thankful for.

Many struggling families who receive clothing from us are kind enough to donate their kids’ outgrown clothing to us. “We All Help Each Other” is our mantra, and we life by it.

Girls Happily Opening Their Boxes of New Clothes!

We all keep our communities strong. You don’t need to be in the best position to help. It just takes a little effort.

Some parents work and can’t meet expenses. Some Moms are fleeing a physically abusive husband. Other families are political refugees from countries in turmoil seeking asylum. Many people are on disability and cannot work.

No child deserves to shiver, or feel ashamed because they own one pair of jeans. Regardless of your political views, or how you feel about charity, you have to agree that children are innocent and do not deserve to suffer under the weight of poverty.

Even if you believe people should “pull themselves up by their own bootstraps,”  and have no appreciation for other people’s life situations, there’s no way  a child can affect their parents’ economic condition, or  are in any way responsible for their own condition.

The donation of clothing to families in our community that could use help is an important goal of Assertive Kids. We aim to connect families with clothing, new and used, on Staten Island, Brooklyn, in Northern New Jersey, and in Philadelphia.

If you have clothing to donate through our Foundation, please call us and we will arrange for prompt pick-up on Staten Island or in Northern New Jersey.

This following is a list of our activities undertaken in this regard:

-A family in New Brighton at Jersey Street and Hendricks Street, Staten Island, received clothing for five kids, 37 items in size 4T, 20 items size 5/6, 16 pieces of clothing size 8/10 girls and a Paw-Patrol schoolbag, and 7 items of boys size 8. Also donated were three mugs and a bottle of perfume.

The children’s uncle wrote, “For my nephew and nieces. This was a great thing for you to do for my house. Really appreciate it.” The kids’  Mom wrote, “Yes, I’m very thankful and fulfilled wit the amount and quality of everything! My children will have clothes they can fit now and grow into. We are very thankful to Heather and everyone involved for helping my children have summer and winter clothes. Thank you! We are going through everything right now. Thank you so much.” (March, 2020)
